Hi! XAudio2 audio playback after decoding mp3 from libmad

Hello! I have successfully decoded my 16-bit MP3 using libmad. I am having an extremely difficult time getting playback through Microsoft's XAudio2 API. I can get the audio data to play, but it is heavily distorted, levels are peaking and it just sounds not good. I took a look at many open source mp3 players using libmad, and all of the ones that play correctly are using DirectSound. If anyone has any experience with this, I would love to receive any tips you have. Thanks!

hello. If my callback function output() return MAD_FLOW_CONTINUE, I get no error. But the same function return MAD_FLOW_STOP, then I get error of title. This error is not always occurred. 1st frame of function decode(), error has not occurred. 1frame and 8bytes of next frame is not broken. I think I use the wrong way. but how wrong,I don't know. Please advice me how to use libmad with output() return MAD_FLOW_STOP.

Compiling libmad standalone static lib

Dear All, I am just trying to compile libmad to port in DSP. I am struggling to develope it as a standalone lib. i added all the .c. .h.data file in the eclipse IDE -GCC compiler flags -c -Wall -static -g -O -fforce-addr -fthread-jumps -fcse-follow-jumps -fcse-skip-blocks -fexpensive-optimizations -fregmove -fschedule-insns2 i used the minimad.c as a wrapper to this application since either i get segmentation fault or only noise without the flags. Anybody give any idea how to proceed. note:The wrapper works well with the PC build. So i have problem only with my static library. Thanks in advance. Vijay Mukilan S

libmad on ARM64

Hello libmad devs, My name is Matthew Grosvenor, and as part of a project in association with Lenaro, I'm looking at different Fedora linux packages to port or recode with C if possible in order to get them to compile/run properly on ARM64 hardware. I'm wondering if this is something that's perhaps going on already behind the scenes, and if it's something worth undertaking. I'm going to take a cursory grep around the code to see what actual x86 assembler is in the code to see if it's feasible given some of my time constraints. If you have any advice or feedback on this, I'd love to hear it. Just let me know, Thanks, Matthew

Error decoding an mp3 stream

Hello everyone, I have an issue with the mad_decoder. I am currently developing a media server using live555 to stream the data, and libmad to decode the stream received. Currently, I am able to receive the stream perfectly into a file, and it is fully playable through a player (i.e. windows media player). Though, I want to play it with my own program, so I need to decode the stream received. I tried including the minimad test program into my projet with live555, but I am getting the error : decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) at byte offset 0. libid3tag: parsing UTF16 in STRINGLIST can result in infinite loop

Hello. The loop that parses strings from STRINGLIST in field.c on line 294 depends only on length parameter and on function id3_utf16_deserialize() to move the pointer *ptr by length or more in case of UTF16. However, in several files with UTF16 ID3 tags on my PC the *ptr pointer was moved by one byte less. Following calls of id3_utf16_deserialize() didn't move pointer at all so the loop would continue forever or until field->stringlist.strings filled whole memory. I'm not sure if it's fault of invalid ID3 tags but the library should certainly recover from it. Because the last byte is always string terminator I fixed it with horrible hack I attached. I have no idea if it's correct but it avoided the infinite loop so far. I'd love to privately send you test C source and test file with ID3 tags if you're interested. I'm sorry for my dirty half-analysis. I already gave up on MPD which was the only reason why I was debugging this problem.

libid3tag Windows DLL source package available

I made a version of libid3tag that builds a Windows DLL instead of a static library, using reasonably modern tools. My package includes Visual Studio 2008 project files suitable for building both 32-bit and 64-bit targets. The DLL exports only a subset of the library's functions, but this is easily changed by editing libid3tag.def. The C source files are identical to the original 0.15.1b distribution, except for a single one-line change to id3tag.h: an id3_free function was added. DLLs should free any memory they allocate, and if these allocations are directly exposed to the user, the DLL should provide a method for freeing them, so that the freeing can be done by the DLL's heap manager, which may differ from the application's. In a DLL version of libid3tag, strings allocated by functions such as id3_ucs4_latin1duplicate MUST be freed via id3_free instead of free, otherwise the heap will likely be corrupted, potentially crashing the application. Cross-compiling for armv7

Hello, Has anyone managed to compile libmad for armv7. If so, could you kindly reply with an example ./configure that works. How to "build" libmad-devel

Hi all. I have been wanting to get a audacity build, which could provide "Import Audio" feature, on my armv7l-based Fedora 14 machine. I have already asked the audacity-devel guys; it was concluded that audacity needs to be build with "--with-libmad" option; however, on my armv7l machine, I do not have any "libmad-devel" installed, nor can it be found in the "yum" repositories. So, could anyone please point me to the source-code for "libmad-devel", so that I may compile myself? (I have already found the source for "libmad", but not for "libmad-devel"). Hi, I have added a wav header to the file at beginning, now I am able to play the file but its all noise. Seems like decoder generated some corrupted data. Also I am facing the same error:- decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) at byte offset 0 decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) at byte offset 4342960 Can any one help me in this. Resuming decoding after {STOP || BREAK}

Hi I am trying to use the MAD library to decode mp3 files for a programming I am working on, the problem is the produced outputs are very large. So my aim was to decode X number of frames, the break until there are spaces for my by resuming the decoding. However this isn't working as I hoped. Currently, I am populating the output buffer, in the high level API, and when it is full then I break (and I have tried stop too) however If I want to resume by calling the decode_run (again) then it never get back to resuming the decoding. So I was inquiring as it whether there was a 'best practice' way of doing this with MAD, of course I could always block the decoder thread when the buffer is full. But I am not sure that is the best way. Thank You

madplay or libmad eating out the last part of the audio output

Hello, This mail is related to the following mp3splt bug report: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=2424463&group_id=5… What I was trying to find out is why the audio output length is different using other decoders or different madplay "options" I have made some tests on the attached file; here are the results : ------------------------------------------------------------------- - madplay with alsa output does not outputs the last part of the file (the laughter is missing) - madplay with wave output, then playing the created file with 'aplay' plays it entirely (with the laughter) - madplay on windows (MAD frontend version 1.4.1 - http://members.home.nl/w.speek/mad_frontend.htm) plays the whole - mpg123 also plays it entirely I don't understand why the audio output is different. I first tried to compare the number of frames and the frame sizes of mpg123 and libmad, but they were the same. Do you know how can I debug this further ? Any help is appreciated. madplay play back error on start and end of file

Hi, sorry its my first posting... hoping for some clues.. When I play back i get some noise at the beginning and end of the mp3... Iim using alsa soundcard on arm-linux. but cant compile madplay --with-alsa because libasound is not found, where is that? compiling without that flag all works except the noise at beginning and end of playback, im guessing madplay is outputing a non-raw format to a soundcard thats expecting raw?

Enhancing madplay to speed up audio books and podcasts

I would like to enhance an audio book player called "daisy-player" to allow the user to control the speed. It uses madplay for all of it's sound output. I wrote a simple package called "sonic" that speeds up speech with low distortion. It's in plain ANSI C, and works well on ARM CPUs with no FPU (tested on Android). Since sonic is not yet included in Debian, I recommend just adding two files to the madplay source: sonic.c and sonic.h. I would be happy to make the initial edits to incorporate sonic speed up in the output stream processing of madplay. Would such an enhancement be of interest? Thanks, Bill

Hi, Jos. Thanks for writing daisy-player. It looks quite good to me. I find that a lot of vision impaired people like to speed up podcasts and audio books. This is a feature I would be happy to help add to daisy-player. I wrote a simple C library called sonic which can speed up or slow down speech with fairly low distortion. It's best attribute is low distortion at high speed up factors of 2X or more. It looks like I need to modify madplay, to enable speeding up of speech as an option, which should not be too hard. I'll post to their dev list to see if I the author is interested in including the capability. Bill

Hi, Im trying to play mp3's on a new arch using madplay and alsa. If I pipe the output of madplay into alsa it works fine eg: madplay -R48000 -o wav:- file.mp3 | aplay -cc but if I invoke it directly: madplay - R48000 file.mp3 it sounds horrible, like its clipping and there lots of white/pinknoise mixed in. I have tried attenuating the output (-a -10) and check alasa-mixer settings that doesn't help. I also get the same effect when playing audio via mplayer (using libmad) I have no FPU so cant try mpg123 for instance. Any help or hints welcome. Cheers Neil

Skipping and Rewinding to certain frames (Low Level API)

Hello Mad List, I am working on a project that uses libmad to decode mp3s, one requirement for the project is for rewinding or fast forwarding to a particular frame at any point in the playback. What is the preferred way to do that? Currently I set a variable when skipping forward that disables the write to output (which is libao). It works but I get a bunch of alsa underun errors (Not a libmad problem though). What bothers me more though is when I want to rewind I have to re-initialize the song and skip to the frame that is needed. That seems very inefficient to me. Is there a better way?
