I've sent in patches as well, but they never got accepted either. So, I have two (!) copies of libid3tag in the MusicBrainz project libtunepimp: one that works for id3v2.3 and one that works for id3v2.4. They both are capable of writing new tags, even if the size changes. Both of these libs are getting a lot more attention and bug fixes and are approaching some semblance of stable.

If someone would like to take on forking this project and putting up the code someplace else and starting with my code as an improved version, I'd love to see that.

The 2.4 version is here:

The 2.3 version is here:

The patch from

still hasn't been applied.  Will it be anytime soon?  I am thinking of
overhauling the id3_file_* interface to support adding (and removing)
tags from files as well as updating already existing ones (beyond the
"primary" one).  Is there any interest in this, i.e., will my patches
actually be applied to this library if they are up to code?  It's a very
nice library with a nice interface, but it could still do with some
improvements.  Thanks,
