hfs_fs version 0.8.2 released

I am beginning to feel like a broken record... I am pleased to announce that version 0.8.2 of hfs_fs is now available for immediate download from the HFS for Linux Page at <http://www-sccm.Stanford.EDU/~hargrove/HFS/>. It is also available (or soon will be) from Sunsite (and its many mirrors) in <ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/ALPHA/hfs/>. VERSIONS 0.8 AND 0.8.1 CONTAINED A BUG THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE LOSS OF BLOCKS WHEN FRAGMENTED FILES WERE DELETED. IF YOU USED THESE VERSIONS TO DELETE FILES THEN YOU SHOULD RUN EITHER Norton Utilities OR Disk First Aid UNDER MacOS TO RECOVER ANY LOST BLOCKS. USERS OF PREVIOUS VERSIONS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO UPGRADE IMMEDIATELY. hfs_fs 0.8.2 is a kernel loadable module implementing the Macintosh HFS filesystem for Linux kernel versions 2.0.1 and newer. Note that it is for local media only; it is not an AppleShare client. Since the 0.8 release hfs_fs is fully read-write. For those of you running AppleShare servers on your Linux machine (Netatalk or CAP), this software is a perfect way to mount Macintosh CDROMs on your Linux machine for export to your Macs. Thanks for the bug reports. Mount options

Hi all. By now your probably aware that I'm having all kinds of problems getting win95 machines to see my Mac CDROMs. I think I have the problem narrorwed down. I have studied the docs, and can't find an option to simply replace the / character with another character. Windows complains that when I have a file like 'Filename With Space/More Info' it sees the file simply as ':2f Info'. In other words, hfs seems to be translating the / to :2f Is there another way to do this? Why doesn't windows understand it in the first place? Linux does... Dave

CDROMs and Win95

Hi all. I'm using hfs.o to mount a few Mac CDROMs, and sharing them with mars_nwe, the netware emulator, for Win95 machines. I haven't gotten much of a responce from the mars people, so hoped I could ask here. My problem is that mars responds that it can't read properly the .* files. For example: NWCONN 1:Cannot map inode=1073741826, dev=2816, namespace=4 to vol=2 handle NWCONN 1:nw_search_file_dir:Cannot add entry '.rootinfo' NWCONN 1:Cannot map inode=-1073741822, dev=2816, namespace=4 to vol=2 handle NWCONN 1:nw_search_file_dir:Cannot add entry '.finderinfo' This is a CDROM that was pressed that contains some client info, not a commercial CDROM. Maybe I will get lucky, and someone else is also having this trouble. Is there a way to either hide or otherwise these files in the first place? Maybe I am configuring mars incorrectly? Mac CD's and Win95

Hi all. As you may or may not know from my last post, I am using the Netware emulator to share a multi-disc cdrom to a group of Win95 machines. My problem now is that I can see the first directory entry of the cdrom, but none others from the win95 clients. Might there be any reason for this? Is there some peculiarities with long filenames maybe? Is there something else I can check? I have tried several CDROM's, most/all with the same results. Could it not even be related to the hfs module? I can see normal iso9660 cdrom's just fine... Do I have any other options? Thanks again, Dave Wreski

Unknown CDROM format

Hi all. I have a Mac CD that I'm trying to read, so I successfully inserted the hfs.o module into my 2.0.26 kernel. Despite my being able to read the CDROM (PageMaker), its still says unknown cdrom format. Also, I'm using mars_nwe, the netware emulator, and I cannot see this disc from a Win95 machine.
