Format of '._' files on non-HFS(+) disks?

Does anyone know where I can find out the layout of the files with names starting with '._' that are created when an HFS/HFS+ file is copied to a UFS, NFS etc file system? Thanks James Pearson

Writing to the Desktop Database

Hi, I am working on a project where I am required to create a Desktop Database. I have more then 100 files of the same type for which I would like to display the custom icon. I would like to know whether it is possible to display the the custom icon for a file by putting the relevant information in the Desktop Database. How can I set the creator, type, kind and icon data for the custom icon files by writing into the DTDB. Is there a flag called "hasDTDB" present and is it system defined. If so, where and how do we set it? I am coding in the "Windows platform" so I would not be able to user Mac routines. I am using a Mac to test whether my files are displaying the proper icons later. I would be thankful for any inputs in this regard. Thank you, Entwicklung.

Hi, I am trying to write an Icon-Extractor. Is there documentation available for the ICN# resource, regarding its structure and other relevant details.I would like to know how I can write Icon information into a file programmatically, once the Icon information has been extracted. TIA, Entwicklung

Adding to a Resource Fork of a File programmatically in Windows

Hi, I am working on a Project dealing with HFS and I need some help: Is it possible to display a custom icon for a normal document(not an application) - by writing the resource header, icon-list and resource map in the file's resource fork. If possible how do I do it in Windows(not in Mac)? What is the structure of a resource fork? How do I programmatically insert the resources into a file in Windows, so that the Icon resource is visible when viewed in a Mac. Entwicklung.

Displaying custom icon for a file

Hi, How do I add an Icon family to a file and see the Icon being displayed. What I tried is as follows: First add the icon family to a file using ResEdit "Use Custom icon" in the properties of the file is set. After saving the changes the Icon was still not displayed. Please help me out. Thanks In Advance
