HFS or Hybrid Image viewer and verifier.

Hi all, Can anybody of you give me a Image verifier for Apple HFS and Hybrid CDs . i want to first of all create a CD image on to the hard disk and use that verifier with the viewer to find out the bugs in my code. I really need this verifier cause I dont know how much compliant is my HFS code with the accepted limits. Interpretation needed

Hello, The HFS+ specs mention: " UInt32 attributes; The following constants define the various bits that may be set in the attributes field of the header record. enum{ kBTBadCloseMask = 0x00000001, kBTBigKeysMask=0x00000002, kBTVariableIndexKeysMask=0x00000004 } " In my case I need to set both kBTBigkeysMask and kBTVariableIndexKeysMask. What is meant by bits 1,2 and 4? Do I set attributes = 6 (assuming 2 and 4 refer to positions 1(2^1) and 2(2^2)) OR attributes = 20 (binary 10100) starting to count from 0 (LSB) ? OR attributes = 10 (binary 1010) starting to count from 1 (LSB) ? Can somebody please tell me how this is to be interpreted? Regards, Nandini Hengen

TN 1150 - HFS+

Hello, The technical notes for HFS+ pg. 26 describes two fields userInfo and finderInfo of the structure HFSPlusCatalogFile as " This field contains information used by the Mac OS Finder. Its format is not part of the HFS Plus Specifications." Can anybody who is familiar with the specifications please tell me if a third party HFS-generating application has to set these fields to 0 assuming them to be 'reserved' or what values exactly these should correctly take on? I'm relatively new to the Specs and would be grateful for some professional advice from the experts who work with the specs everyday. Regards, Nandini Hengen

Hybrid CD

Hi All, I am working on a Hybrid Cd format(HFS/ISO). For the ISO format we need to leave the first 16 sectors (i.e. filled with zeros). The Primary Volume descriptors start from sector 16 onwards. We can dump the volume information for the HFS part in the first sixteen sectors then. My question is there is any way of placing the data on the CD such that i only write two views for the same data( I mean ISO view and HFS view) so that actual data written is only once and not double for each view. Can anyone of you know and give me a better insight in solving this problem..or suggestions??? I have an iMac with MacOS 9 which seems to have a normal CD-Drive. 1) I'd like to know if it is possible to write/record Data-CD's (not audio CD's) in the HFS format using this. Is there any difference in the underlying format of an audio CD and a data CD? Are audio CD's also recorded using HFS? 2) I came across an article in c't which mentioned that one could manually replace the CD-Rom drive by a CD-Writer instead and install the Software Toast onto the iMac which could then be used for burning CD's in HFS/HFS+ format. HFS verification & testing

Hello everyone ! I've been looking for documentation to read up on HFS/HFS+ and hybrid a bit since I have to test an existing HFS-Format. Does anyone know of any test-software which is freely downloadable for the purpose of testing HFS-CD's? The most basic test would be of course to see if the CD is readable by a Mac but that wouldn't point out the individual errors present in the format generated or where exactly these errors are occuring. In case of UDF which is another fs format a UDF-verifier from Philips is freely downloadable from the internet and extremely useful in pointing out the individual errors present in an image i.e. at which points it fails to conform to the UDF-Standard. Does anyone happen to have/know of anything similar for HFS which one could use for this purpose ? As far as documentation is concerned I have the technical notes for HFS-Plus and chapter 2 of 'Inside Macintosh' for HFS. I couldn't come across any other literature of significance. I'd be grateful for any further links as well. Regards, Nandini Hengen

HYBRID CD -Information please

Dear All, This is my first interaction with u all. I am need of a litlle guidance. I have been assigned to work for a Hybrid CD. It should work on Windows. I have seen Ahead Nero software( a cd writer software). It has an option for HYBRID CD. But on selecting that option , the user has to select a MAC partition first. This partition is burned on to the CD as it is. But I will have to write the software taking files from Windows partitions only and write them to the CD in the AppleHFS format . Can anybody of you please help me by giving an insight to how to start about it??? Hi, Nandini Hengen Thanks for your inputs. Yes, thats actually what I am doing now. I am a part of a development team engaged in creating a cd/dvd writing software. I am assigned to develop the HFS support for CD/DVD and HFS/ISO (Hybrid) support for CD/DVD. To my Knowledge(uptil now) I have known about HFS and HFS plus the filesystems on the MAC. I will have to implement HFS plus only for the HFS only CD. Also, I dont know much about the way a mac reads the ISO9660 filesystem... But they say(APPLE people) they have some Extensions to ISO9660. If you can help me on it. Presently I am in the searching stage and reading phase of the project. I don't think you can use Nero at all to write directly to a CD the way you intend to. As I've understood you need to generate the hybrid format and Nero already does this for you. So you can't intervene by using the option you mentioned. You probably have to think along the lines of how you're going to produce the hybrid format you need (with your software) and choose some writing software which writes this then onto the CD. Once you're done with the first part you could use the Burn Image option of Nero or any other writer-software you may have to write on to the CD to check if what you have written is readable.
