The detail information of synth_full in libmad

Hello, Sir I am quite interest in the detail info of synth_full in libmad. I got the general ideal of how it funtions, such as dct32 for matrix operation and good arrangement of data in order to reduce the multiplication for windows. However, I would like to get more detail information so that I could do further optimization to this module in ARM platform. And seek the possiblities for using WMMX or other technique. Using MAD with small buffers

Hi! I want to use MAD for audio playback, and looked at the minimad.c example. My problem is that I can't map the whole input to memory at once (as is done there) but I have to use fixed size blocks (size of my input buffer), which I feed to MAD and refill in my input callback. I've adapted the minimad.c code (my version is included below) to use fixed size blocks of input; if that buffer size is greater then my file size it works quite fine; but when it is smaller, I get loads of errors (mostly lost synchronization) after a few blocks are read. As there's not much documentation about that, I hope you can help me: When I use stream_buffer(...), how long is that buffer data needed to be available? Can I clear (or reuse) that buffer the next time my input callback is called? Thank you very much for your help! About subband synthesis

Hello all, I am trying to improve the performance of the MP3 decoder. One idea is to improve the subband synthesis. In the MAD, the subroutine, synth_full(), process the subband synthesis. In this subroutine, it can be found that the data (dct32 output) is accessed sequentially. However, the coefficients (synthesis window) is not accessed sequential. I am trying to modify the subroutine in order to access the coefficients sequentially. My question is that where can i find the document about the flow of the subroutine or suggestion. thanks a lot!! repetative decoding of last frame why

Hi all, finally i am almost succeded in the mp3 decoding with buffering concept except in the decoding of last buffer .for last buffer i am dynamically creating memory and appending MAD_BUFFER_GAURD. what i am getting 2-12 more no. of frames extra compared to the memory mapping approch in the minimad.cwhy is this so ?? can any one tell where the problem is ?? below i am providing our modified input callback function. thanks in advance. prafulla chandra. buffering using the high level api

Hi all, as I told earlier I am doing mp3 streaming using high level api of MAD decoder for buffering I am using the "*streamnextframe*" which is in the * frame.c* file and for the beginning frame address I am using "*framebegin " *which is in the *stream.c . *By using these two variables I am filling the buffer in the *input callback*.with this concept I am able to decode the song .with some errors messages are comming as bad data pointer ,forbidden bitrate value etc.........and while playing in the winamp some little noise and some of the song words are some what changed(Pronunciation is different but perceptually identifiable )at every 20 sec or 30 sec ( this time duration is varying some times) .whether my concept of filling the buffer with those variables are correct or not .next problem is I am converting the output file into WAV file using the software and at the same time I am giving the same input file to the other soft wares which will convert directly from MP3 to WAV . then what I feel was the file size I am getting is less compared to the other one (software decoded). why is it so .where is the problem . I am some what suspicious above concept. whether that is correct or not .if it is not what i have to do and how I have to make links with the decode engine in such a way that i can able to play the song with buffering concept. thanks in advance regards, prafulla chandra

how to implement input buffer to execute mad

Hi all, i am working on mad code to decode the mp3 .my requirement is instead of giving the whole file as input to the mad decoder i have to give the input of 8k every time . what i understand from the code is it will ask for input when ever there is insufficient data to decode the frame that time it will refer input buffer using the input callback. i am extracting frame by frame by using the same sync search algorithm.now these extracted frame i am keeping in the 8k buffer at the initial time .when ever it asks for data i am loading the next frame into the buffer by deleating the first frame in the buffer and moving the remaining data to that possition and appending the new frame at the last . now my doubt is how many frames i have to keep in the input buffer and how i have to link this code in the original mad code means, how my code has to communicate with the mad code ,where i have to do the changes to achieve the same.and in how many approches this can be achieved .because this is my idea only i dont know how to do manupulations and where to do in the code whether my approch is correct or not ,if not please tell how i have to approch for this problem . regards, prafulla chandra.

hi there... :) I've using libmad, and I want to decode a mp3 file, but I get the following decoding errors. this example is for a very small mp3. decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) at byte offset 0 decoding error 0x0102 (reserved header layer value) at byte offset 67 decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) at byte offset 85 decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) at byte offset 104 but most of the times I get the following, this example is for another mp3 file, decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) at byte offset 0 decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) at byte offset 6034865 it seems that I get errors at the begin and at the end of the offsets. Lost synchronization errors

Hi, We're trying to let minimad play a buffered mp3 on an embedded arm processor. We're using an 8KB buffer (array of chars), which we are filling in the input callback function. As read somewhere else in the newsgroups you have to start every "new" buffer with stream->next_frame till stream->bufend to prevent a lot of sync errors. We've tried this, but without luck so far. Maybe someone here sees a glitch. (code is at end of message). On top of that we got a lot of various decoding errors ALWAYS in the last half of our buffer. Even if we increase/decrease the size of the buffer, there are always a lot of errors in the last half of the buffer. Hi.. I?ve tried that program that you said, and my pcm file is totally corrupted.. Whish is not good at wall. Hi there, I had the same problem. The way I fixed it was to feed the MAD decoder with 1 second audio chucks that starting with the ADTS (Audio Data Transport Stream) sync word (0xFFFC). I'm not a MPEG1 specialist but, if I remember well, every second, over the 37 audio chunks, an ADTS header is injected. That header is always starting with the sync word: 0xFFFC. Therefore, if you provide the MAD decoder with 1 second audio chunk (starting with the ADTS header) you should avoid the lost of synchronization problem. Hi, I dont know if this helps, but Im getting the same errors as you do when I decode small mp3 files who is just a part of a song. My experience is that these errors does not effect the decoded file. Have you tried to play the decoded .pcm file? I do so with Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/, I import .pcm file as raw audio data in the project menu) and I cant say there is anything wrong with the decoded file, at least from just listening to it. Compiling under windows with Visual C++: unresolved external symbols

Hi, I have problems working with libmad 0.15.1b under Windows and Visual C++: error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _mad_decoder_finish referenced in function "int __cdecl decode(unsigned char const *,unsigned long)" error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _mad_decoder_run referenced in function "int __cdecl decode(unsigned char const *,unsigned long)" error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _mad_decoder_init referenced in function "int __cdecl decode(unsigned char const *,unsigned long)" All in all 5 such error messages. Why? I downloaded libmad 0.15.1b and built the libmad.lib with Visual C++ (libmad comes with a msvc++ subdirectory), copied it to my Visual C\lib directory. My project includes the mad.h as well. So what is missing? I also created a libmad.dll and put in my windows/system32 directory. I have been dealing with this problem since 4 days now without any solution. Thanks in advance Michael

What system are you running this on? Hi! I just measured the memory usage of minimad during decoding to be approximately 4MB, and am having a hard time believing that all this is minimad. Thus, I am trying to determine the size added to the minimad code during run-time due to linked libraries (i.e. stdio, stdlib, unistd etc. ). I have tried compiling minimad with dynamic linked libraries to find the difference in memory usage, but without luck. Does anyone know a easy way to find the sizes of the libraries linked to the minimad application? Regards, Håvard

Hi, Im thinking of trying to modify the minimad decoder so that I can implement it in a 8-bit 8051 microcontroller and have a couple of questions regarding the configure.h file: In line 80 in the configure.h file, it says: /* Define to enable a fast subband synthesis approximation optimization. */ /* #undef OPT_SSO */ Does this mean that OPT_SSO is always defined unless I undefined it? In line 107 in the configure.h file, it says: /* The size of a `int', as computed by sizeof. */ #define SIZEOF_INT 4 What determines SIZEOF_INT? (I understand that the sizeof function returns the size, but what actually makes the size of int 4, ). To redefine the question: Is it ever not 4, if so, when? A spin-off from that question is: can anyone tell me the sizes (in bits) of: signed int unsigned int signed long unsigned long Last question: Does anyone see any immediate show-stoppers for implementing the minimad decoder in a 8-bit microprocessor? I remember problems very much like this when I was first creating mpg321, and IIRC the problem was a 'signed' issue. Perhaps 'char' is signed on your platform, and your output needs unsigned? I do remember the fix not making sense to me. PCM samples can be negative, I think, but I believe that I had to change to using unsigned char explicitly. mad-dev I have transplant madplay to embedded linux2.4.18. When I play the mp3,it has a loud noise in the music. Has anybody met this before? hi.. I would like to know if is possible to send the decoded sound to a file, not pcm file. A file that contains the values in hexadecimal or binary. I need this because I need to read those values by another program(Microblaze). And I'm not able to interpret the pcm file.
