Hi Khalid, If I have understood your problem correctly, you want to extract ID3 tag and if possible Lyrics Tag in MP3 file. For version2(v2), it is stored after the encoded data, to extract it, you have to go at the end of the file. I have done this in my own way. What I did was like this, 1. fseek(pFile, filesize - 10000, SEEK_SET); This 10000 number was arbitrary. To accomodate Lyrics space. But if it is only ID3 tag present in the file, you can reduce this number to a mere 100. 2. fread(pBuffer, 1, 1000, pFile);//Lyrics Tag is also present Otherwise go 10 byte at a time. ststr(pBuffer,"ID3"). If strstr does not work in your compile(possible), go by the stupid process of matching byte by byte. When you found the ID3 tag, extract the information as per the specification of ID3 tag. You have to do this even before start decoding MP3 file. In case of encoding write the information, write the information after encoding is done. <ID3> <FILE> <Artist> </Artist> </FILE> </ID3> In Case of version 1(v1) however ID3 tag is at the beginning of the file. Then you dont have to go at the end of the file. Hi all, I send you that email because I want to extract the Genre (rock, salsa...) from the MP3 file. I have studied libid3tag source code and I don't know how to perform that. I will be very grateful if someone can help me. In a second step, I want to write tags in an MP3 file (tagg v2).If someone can tell if it's possible to do that with libid3tag. hello, i am using mad decoder to decode my MPEG3 file . but every time it is giving me errrors File pointer is at 4671920 decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) decoding error 0x0103 (forbidden bitrate value) decoding error 0x0103 (forbidden bitrate value) decoding error 0x0103 (forbidden bitrate value) decoding error 0x0103 (forbidden bitrate value) decoding error 0x0104 (reserved sample frequency value) decoding error 0x0103 (forbidden bitrate value) decoding error 0x0104 (reserved sample frequency value) decoding error 0x0103 (forbidden bitrate value) decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) decoding error 0x0104 (reserved sample frequency value). presently i am using a buffer of size (8000) ,but when it decodes the1st frame,it gives me error of lost synchronization. it is not able to find that sync bit ................................................................................................................ can any one help me in this problem. shikha ______________________________________________________________________

Help me about libMAD

Hi, I just compled the libmad via Microsoft Visual C and added minimad.c to the workspace. But the workspace compiling does not pass because following files unistd.h,sys/stat.h and sys/mman.h which declared in minimad.c don't exsit. Error like this: ========================= Deleting intermediate files and output files for project 'app - Win32 Debug'. --------------------Configuration: app - Win32 Debug-------------------- Compiling... minimad.c e:\libmad-0.15.1b\minimad.c(23) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'unistd.h': No such file or directory Error executing cl.exe. app.exe - 1 error(s), 0 warning(s) ========================= So could you tell me what should I do to make the compiling pass ? Dear Håvard, I noticed that you 'currently decoding mp3 files using the minimad mp3-decoder and the high-level API.' in the MAD mailing list. I just compled the libmad and added minimad.c to the workspace to try to decode mp3 song with high-level API mode. But the compiling does not pass because following files unistd.h,sys/stat.h and sys/mman.h which declared in minimad.c don't exsit. So could you tell me what should I do to make the compiling pass ? madplay dither algorithm

hi All, I'm new to digital sound engineering. I don't understand the steps involved in madplay's dithering algorithm in audio_linear_dither(). Can anybody give me some clues on this? Does a 32-bit PCM in madplay when dithered to 16-bit output give better sound quality than an original 16-bit decoder? -- Thanks in advance, Liem Pham

Hello Friends, I am new to this project. I was researching for a mp3 decoder and happen to find mad project, I think this is the right one for me. Thanks for doing this great project, quite complex indeed!. I downloaded the necessary files from sourceforge.net, like,... libid3tag-0.15.1b.tar.gz libmad-0.15.1b.tar.gz madplay-0.15.2b.tar.gz zlib123.zip And opened the project file, madplay.dsw, unfortunately it complained that could not find the zlib1.1.4 project files, so I separately dowloaded the latest zlib123 version from their website. From what I could infer so far is that, 1. zlib and libmad are independent projects with no dependency, zlib is created as Windows DLL project, and libmad as a Static Library project. 2. libid3tag depends upon zlib for compilation and compiles to a static library project. 3. Madplay, compiles to a Win32 Console project and depends upon the 2 static libraries, viz., libid3tag and libmad static libraries. So in Visual Studio I have one solution contains 4 projects, namely libid3tag, libmad, zlib and madplay. I did setup the project-properties with proper "additional include directories" and also added new references for both libid3tag (that depends upon zlib) and madplay (that depends upon libid3tag and libmad). So far zlib, libid3tag and libmad projects compiled successfuly with zero errors, and I could see that their library files are present in their own ./Debug directories.
