DSP or FPGA MPEG1 Layer 2 IP

Hi all, Has any one ported mad to a DSP or FPGA? I need a MPEG 1 Layer 2 IP core I can add to a new design. Can you send me the source code and tell me what chip its designed for? Problem importing certain MP2 files

Hi, I'm a developer of Audacity [1] and we use libmad to import MP2/MP3 files. While it generally works fine (thanks a bunch for the great library!) there are some MP2 files libmad does not import (see [2] for an example, about 4.4 MB). When trying to play this file with madplay 0.15.2 on Ubuntu, the following output is given: markus@markus:~$ madplay nb00.mp2 MPEG Audio Decoder 0.15.2 (beta) - Copyright (C) 2000-2004 Robert Leslie et al. error: frame 0: bad bitrate/mode combination 0 frames decoded (0:00:00,0), -inf dB peak amplitude, 0 clipped samples The file does play fine with mplayer, though. Segmentation fauls because libmad doesn't check for buffer overflows

On a couple of occasions I have found that libmad (v0.15.0b) generates segmentation errors because it doesn't really bother checking whether the end of buffer has been reached. That is a real worry, because one of the first thing one usually does when writing robust code is ensure that wherever a pointer is used it is never allowed to go beyond available data. Look at function mad_layer_II() for example. Here we have a "struct mad_stream" containing "buffer", "bufend", and "ptr" pointers. Then just a few lines later, about line 382, we have the following code: for (ch = 0; ch < nch; ++ch) allocation[ch][sb] = mad_bit_read(&stream->ptr, nbal); Unbelievably just the ptr is passed to mad_bit_read(). This means that mad_bit_read() can, and sometimes does, increment the "ptr" beyond "bufend". This is really lame code, if you'll excuse the pun. Somebody should run some tests that pass randomly corrupted packets to libmad and catch all of the segmentation faults that libmad will generate. One solution to above problem would be to created a bufend ptr in struct mad_bitptr (ie. mad_bit_init() should be passed buffer and bufend). Or just rationalize lots of the code by joining buffer/bufend into a new struct and never using a anything but that struct everywhere. MAD.

Porting 32 bit MAD play onto 16 bit fixed point DSP for OMAP5912

bad main-data-begin pointer?

Hi, I am using libmad to handle mp3 access for my project ( www.xbat.org ). Our particular application requires fast, accurate seeking, and I have been successful in using header information to seek to the correct frame. I am having trouble, though when I set the decoder (from the "high-level" API) running. For many files it works fine, but for some, I get "bad main-data-begin pointer" errors for the first one or two frames decoded. Right now, I am circumventing the problem through the use of the MAD_FLOW_IGNORE symbol in the error callback function, but this results in the somewhat-undesirable behavior of decoding zeros for the first several frames. Is there a way around this, short of deliberately seeking several frames early and then discarding the unneeded data? Might this have something to do with bit reservoir encoding? madplay-0.15.2b acting crazy on OSX 10.4

Hello, I have downloaded the latest versions of madplay, libmad and libid3tag. I had to rename the wait() routine in the audio_carbon.c otherwise I was getting conflicts against the sys/wait.h. After that everything built, but madplay is acting absolutely crazy. I gave it an aiff file to play and all I get is gibberish. I gave it a simple wave file to play and this is what I get: [ukiel:/MP3/madplay-0.15.2b] wind% madplay simpsn03.wav MPEG Audio Decoder 0.15.2 (beta) - Copyright (C) 2000-2004 Robert Leslie et al. error: frame 0: lost synchronization 0 frames decoded (0:00:00.0), -inf dB peak amplitude, 0 clipped samples There is no sound at all. Now this file plays fine in VLC, Itunes and such, no problems. I.e. no other sound libraries or anything like that, so there is really nothing for madplay to be fighting with. Question regarding library cababilities (32kbps/22khz)

Greetings, I am attempting to use the Mad library to decode 32kbps/22khz streams. I'm having difficulty however with the output being too fast (e.g. it seems about twice as fast). I'm not sure if this is related to the library at all - but I can't seem to find a definitive answer as to if this library supports lower sample rates. From glancing through the code it appears to, but I have also seen a couple of posts elsewhere that state that libmad does not support 22khz streams. Can someone please confirm this one way or another for me? Thanks, -Matt

Madlib running very slow on PocketPC

Hi, I am trying to compile Madlib on PocketPC platform. The codec got compiled but the decompression is very slow. I am trying to compile it with FPM_ARM, but VS2005 doesnt recognize the assembly commands then. I am not sure whether this is the solution or I am doing something wrong. Can u please help me out with this. I am not getting how to execute madlib at ARM speed. Regards, Swapnil
