Hi,
It seems that the 0.12.5b version of the MAD WinAmp plugin is a bit unstable. Since installing it, I've had WinAmp (2.72) crash several times on me (generally trying to read memory it isn't allowed to read). I think this happens at the end of a file.
Once or twice it has even crashed Windows 2000 on me (as luck would have it, once it happened when I'd just started burning a CD)...
Have anyone else had problems with this version?

Which version did you upgrade from? For example, did you have problems with 0.12.4b? Could you downgrade to 0.12.4b and see if the problems disappear?
Has anyone else experienced problems?

I used 0.12.4b before, and I didn't have any problem with that (I think - it is always a bit difficult to be certain exactly when the problems started to appear). Anyway, I've downgraded to .4 now, and so far there haven't been any problems. Then again, I really noticed the problem while doing some listenings test using a 15 second clip encoded in various modes.

If you can reliably reproduce the problem, that would be the most helpful. A full description of the error message from the crash would also be helpful.
So far no one else has reported any problems with 0.12.5b -- which is not to say there couldn't be any, but there could also be other causes.
Thanks,

Umm, there's that 25 to 30 msec truncating problem at the end of files. Since Magnus's problem is also at the end of files, the two problems could be related.

The truncation problem derives from the fact that the last audio frame is (currently) not decoded unless there is something following it, such as an ID3 tag. The technical reason for this is *precisely* to avoid the possibility of a memory error leading to a crash, because it's possible for the process of decoding to read a few bytes past the end of the current frame under certain (perverse) conditions.
Magnus's problem could be related, yes, but it is an orthogonal issue.
At one point the author of CoolPlayer promised a MAD plugin for CoolPlayer. Can you shed any light on how that is going?
thanks,

I've not heard from Niek for a few months. I don't know where he stands on progress, if any.
