I've just downloaded and installed mad on an intel box running Debian 3. Compilation all went fine (I just used configure/make/make install). I'd like to use mad to play/extract the audio layer from mpeg video files. As a quick test, I ran madplay on an mpeg downloaded from the net. The output was pretty rough - the audio was there, but so was a lot of clicking, squeaking, etc. I got the following output.
