Anyone know why the LINUX port of madplay can't paly 24/48 MP3s, but the Wintel version can?
I upsample all my mp3s from 16/44 to 24/48 to take advantage of the wider bandwidth of modern soundcards.

This all depends on the sound driver. The Linux version of `madplay' uses the OSS sound driver, and not all versions of this support 24-bit output.
