I am new to the list so please excuse me if this topic has already been discussed. I have searched the internet trying to find out why my M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 will not play back in 24bit mode. I am running Windows XP RC1 Beta and I am using M-Audio's latest Windows 2000 WDM drivers. I have verified with M-Audio that this driver version does support 24bit output. They told me: "The latest drivers are 4.12.1.20 are 24 bit but limited to your application rather then the drivers".
When I try to play an mp3 file via winamp with the MAD plugin enabled with 24bit selected, I get an error that the format is not supported.
I currently have this installed in my old Intel BX chipset based motherboard with a Intel Celeron 400mhz processor with 384 megs of PC100 SDRAM.

I'm a newbie to this list as well. I have the same problem, only I am running Win 2K . I too have a similar machine to yours only with a PII @400 mhz.
It has been suggested to me by some folks that one workaround is to use the NT drivers for the card. The caveat is to ensure that the 2496 has its own IRQ, or the system will almost surely be severely unstable if the IRQ is shared by several devices. In my case I would be willing to try this if I could only figure out a way to force Win2k to assign a unique IRQ to the 2496. I have been unable to do this as the button labeled "Change Setting" in the System | Device Manager | Hardware | Properties dialog box is grayed out.
On my PC Win2k asigns IRQ 9 to the 2496, but it shares this IRQ with 5 count 'em 5 other devices. This inspite of the fact that IRQs 7, 10 & 11 are free.
Do you know of a way to do this? Force Win2K to assign a unique IRQ to the 2496?
I wonder if this is an issue with the Terratec EWX24/96 cards?

input and output at the same bitdepth, these are only using 16 bit.

so basically you have to use the NT drivers in win2k/XP to use the MAD Plugin (unless someone has an output .dll that uses the above function). Just be sure that no other devices are sharing the same IRQ as the soundcard or it will probably just lock your system when you try to install them.
