Streaming MAD

Hi, Bug found in MAD regarding streaming: it seems to hijack all streaming, making it impossible to recieve e.g. Ogg Vorbis streams when the MAD plugin is installed. Also, MAD seems to always use the proxy setting in "Internet Options" in Windows/Internet Explorer, rather than the setting in WinAmp. -- Magnus Holmgren

24bit + MX300 + Wrapper

I downloaded the aformentioned wrapper, and lo and behold, it works. I'm using the latest build of drivers for Vortex 2s which you can get from www.vortexofsound.com, and the wrapper program only works with waveout module of Winamp.

Hello. Below is an e-mail i recieved from Terratec Support. I was complaining that the 24 bit output on the EWX 24/96 was not working under Windows 2000 with the WDM drivers. ------------------Begin Quote------------------------- From: Stacey Curtis [ttsupport(a)terratec.de] ------------------------------------------------------ Hello, The WDM driver architecture does not support 24bit resolution. With the older drivers (Version 4-something i think) 24 bits worked fine. But i want to use the version 5 driver because it allows me to use ACPI. I'm using Windows 2000 and Winamp 2.76 and I've noticed a "click" every time Winamp starts playing a new track when using mad plug-in. There is no such problem with Winamp's default decoder. I think it's somehow related to the caching algorithm. May be the default decoder reads the beginning of the next track while finishing playing the current one. Anyway even with the default decoder there are problems with playing the track and using Windows Explorer under Windows 2000. You don't even have to think to hear the diffrence - particularly with mp3s encoded at a lower bit rate - they sound much much better. Also if you can your Vortex 2 to accept 24bit it's even better. Audio quality vs Nullsoft decoder

Have you guys done many comparisons between MAD and the defualt mp3 decoder? What were your results and how much of a diffrence is there? What kind of music did you use, etc? Im in the process of testing it myself as well. I cant wait till my Hoontech DSP24 VE comes in to try this baby out :) Thanks, George Pantazopoulos

24bit output soundcards - Vortex 2s

Well I found my answer here: http://www.tbrowne.demon.co.uk/comp/projects/dacs.htm In short, the MX300 doesn't acutally have 24 bit output but it does a very high quality downsample to 48kHz via an onboard SRC. Apparently the SBLives are supposed to have this although the quality isn't that good. Anyway, the reason this popped up is because I noticed a drop in playback quality from WinME (24bit, downsampled to 16bit on the card), to WinXP (16bit). Geoff
