Is anyone else having a problem with MAD reading the ID3 tags on their MP3s or is it just me? Always the song title. Thanks..
I'm using the MAD WinAmp plug-in and find that, on a great many downloads, I can't read the ID3 tag. On MP3s I make (using EAC with the external LAME codec), so far all the tags have been readable (v1 or 1.1 only).
Can anyone explain what the problem might be?

Almost all MP3s that I use with MAD have been made using CDex and the LAME codec, and I don't think any that I've made can have their tags read by MAD. The standard Winamp plugin however can read them fine. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mcubed To: mad-user@lists.mars.org Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2002 6:41 AM Subject: Re: [mad-user] ID3 Tags

Lindsay - I double-checked my EAC settings (sorry, I should've done that before posting the first time!) and I have the "Use ID3 v1.1 instead of v1.0" enabled. Does CDex allow you that option? Perhaps the problem is that the MAD plug-in can only handle v1.1, and you're writing v1.0 tags? </JUST STUMBLING AROUND IN THE DARK HERE :)>
The standard WinAmp plug-in (I guess that's what I had been using) can read both v1.X and v2.X tags that EAC/LAME writes, but I'm not sure if the standard plug in was capable of reading both v1.0 & v1.1. I suspect it can handle both while MAD can handle only v1.1.

In CDex I am selecting the ID3v2 options. Whether or not it is writing the tags properly I don't really know, although like I said the Winamp plugin can read them. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mcubed To: mad-user@lists.mars.org Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2002 9:44 AM Subject: Re: [mad-user] ID3 Tags

If I remember well, Mad just skips the id3v2 tags, and doesn't process them. If you had used both v1.x and v2, it would have worked.

Actually this might prove useful.
If I look at the 'View file info', Alt-3, in MAD I have only an ID3v1 tab with the file name in the Title section. If I do the same in the Winamp plugin I have an ID3v1 and ID3v2 section and only the ID3v2 section is checked and populated. Is MAD not reading ID3v2 tags properly? While the current version of the MAD plug-in is reading the ID3v2 tag internally, it will only display the ID3v1 tag, if present.
I'm aware of this issue, and had hoped to supply full ID3v2 support very soon, but as sometimes happens I have become distracted with other issues. I only work on the plug-in in my spare time, and I'm sorry that I've not been able to update it recently.
Don't sweat it Rob, I just wasn't aware of the limitation. Thanks for the good work. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rob Leslie" rob@mars.org To: mad-user@lists.mars.org Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2002 3:08 PM Subject: Re: [mad-user] ID3 Tags
